With a good of shoes on her feet, a woman can adjust to anything. And she can do it pain free. No other wearable object wields such power. Women all over the world covet the comfortable shoe. We hunt for them, compare them, store them for next season, keep them long past their due date, and expect them to gloriously update the dreariest of fashion ensembles.

Whether they cost 10 bucks or 500, a woman’s choice of footwear say much about her mood, her lifestyle, and her personal style. Take Danskos, for example. To say I stuck out like a sore thumb in the red suede stilettos with the brass grommets that I like to wear with my distressed jeans is a gross understatement. Suddenly, dismayed to find there was nowhere to wear all my fun shoes, I packed them up (along with my single girl outfits) and my sassy, single girl attitude. I wasn’t a single girl who could spend half her paycheck if she wanted to on handbags and shoes anymore. I was married. Thoroughly married. To a wonderful man who appreciates the wisdom of the “comfortable shoe-wearing woman”.

So, on the day my adorable new husband took me out to Main Street in search of sensible walking shoes, that I found my first pair of these Dansko shoes. Sure, the toes are round. “All the better for wiggle room, my dear”, says the sensible woman my husband would like me to be. And in my red Dansko Mary Janes, I know he smiles with pride, walking with his cool-yet-sensible wife, hand in hand down the nature paths and along Main Street in quaint little main-street Indiana.

Have you heard about Soda Club’s legal battle in Germany? It could have broad consequences in the bottled-water market.

In 2006, by claiming that Soda Club bottles were company property, not property of the customer (in accordance with standard customer contracts), Sodastream tried to stop a competing enterprise from refilling said bottles of carbon dioxide (CO2).

This didn’t work in Germany, and this could very well happen in many other countries.

This market niche does need competition, both for the sake of the environ­ment (bottles should be refilled in the store, a mere 20 second procedure); and for price, which could easily be cut in half. Consider that home-made sparkling water already costs a fraction of store-purchased carbonated beverages; however, things could be a lot better.

Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court confirms immediate enforceability in the Soda-Club case

Soda-Club GmbH, Wiesbaden (“Soda-Club“) may not use its dominant position abusively. Soda-Club had prevented competing suppliers from refilling CO2 cartridges for water carbonating machines by claiming its ownership of the cartridges.

In February 2006 the Bundeskartellamt prohibited this conduct. Soda Club opposed the Bundeskartellamt’s immediately enforceable decision by applying to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court for interim measures. In provisional proceedings the court has now confirmed the Bundeskartellamt’s decision in all material respects. Soda-Club is dominant in the market for refilling CO2 cartridges. Hindering competitors from refilling CO2 cartridges represents an abuse of this dominant position. By this conduct Soda-Club prevents consumers from taking advantage of alternative refilling possibilities. Only the obligation to point out on labels on the company’s own cartridges that it is admissible to have them refilled by competitors was seen by the Higher Regional Court as a disproportionate measure.

Although Soda-Club can still appeal against the Higher Regional Court’s decision to the Federal Supreme Court, the Higher Regional Court’s decision implies that the numerous small and medium-sized bottling plants can now start to compete with Soda-Club and refill all cartridges circulating in the market.

Ah, a question that just about everyone asks themselves when looking at freezers. Lets talk about some things you should bear in mind. You should know that chest freezers are taking more floor space than uprights, sometimes even two times more. You decisionwill surely be affected with this, if you are living in an apartment.
