For the Average person, SEO is something that only people with years of experience can master. As a Dallas SEO it’s my belief that a lot of this is the result of all the crap spouted out by many so called SEO’s. For some, this is because they do not know any better while many others do it because their Clients would stop paying them if they knew how easy it was to rank a web site. SE Optimization isn’t brain surgery people. It’s nothing more than systematically building and optimizing a website the same way over and over to achieve high rankings.

First up, one should make sure that your main keywords are used in the web address if at all possible. With everything except the domain names being equal, a site with your keywords in the domain name will rank higher than a website without the keywords in the web address.

Next up, the you keywords should be used in the Website’s Title. What this does is help search engines like Google,Yahoo and MSN determine what your Website is about.

Your keywords should also be used as the Title of each page also, or at least, some parts of a keyword phrase should be in the page Title. This too helps the search engines figure out what the page is about, what words to rank it for and how relevant it is. Plus, the website should be coded in such a manner as to include the Title of each page in a H1 tag. There should only be one H1 tag per page for the best results. Search engines give a great deal of value to the H1 tag and it’s important that your Page Title’s be inside H1 tags. If your Houston web designer does not know how to do this, find one that does.

You should now have those three things taken care of. Now that you do, it is important that your keywords show up in the content of the page. You should place the main keyword of the page somewhere in the first paragraph and several more times througout the article depending on the length. It’s also important to put it near the end of the page or article. A few more times between the first and last paragraph won’t hurt, just be sure you work them in the first part of the page and again at the end.

Last up, probably the most important thing of SEO actually takes place off site. In my opinion, the most important thing in getting higher ranks for a Website is backlinks leading back to your Website. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these backward links need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the links back to your site.

How important are backlinks? Well, I can rank a website that doesn’t have the keywords in the domain, one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without anchored backward links leading back to your site, {it is impossible} to get ranked higher for any search terms that are the least bit competitive.
