Can Learning How To Detox Promote Your Immune System
I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy good health for pretty much all my life. I very rarely got ill, and colds and viruses never seem to latch on to me – or at least not that lasted longer than about 12 hours. So it was quite alarming when I realized I was becoming very lethargic and out of energy, and struggling to find the energy to even get out of bed in the morning. I’d been to see the doctor on many occasions, and had undergone several test, but they couldn’t find anything wrong with me.
Fortunately a friend of mine is a dietician and she intimated that I needed to detox my body, and take some time to learn to detox your body and understand the impact of toxins on my health. It seemed a lot of people had a lot of good things to say about it, so took it upon myself to learn as much about the process as possible, and get to grips with what is really involved and why the natural health industry recommend doing a detox and suggest getting started with the 7 day detox diet so strongly.
Another thing she suggested to me was to try a foot detox. I now use a foot spa about twice a week, but if you don’t have one of those, the foot detox can do just as good a job – but with the patches you don’t get a relaxing foot massage at the same time
Here’s some healthy detox diet tips I discovered.
Drink water or herbal teas
One of the most important things you need to is drink lots of water while you are following a detox diet as it helps to eliminate water-soluble toxins from your body. There’s lots of other health reasons to drink water as it helps prevent constipation, stops water retention (believe it or not), and helps reduce the signs of aging by plumping up your skin. On a normal day try to drink about 2 liters of water, although you will need more in hot weather or on days when you are exercising.
As a guideline, increase your water intake by about half a liter for each hour of exercise. The best water to drink is home filtered tap water, or boiled water which has cooled, or bottled water. Try to store your water at room temperature rather than in the fridge. If you don’t always fancy water, herbal teas – loose leaf tea is the better option if it’s available. Peppermint, camomile, dandelion root, horsetail and yarrow are particularly good as their essential oils help boost the detox process. Roibosch (Redbush) tea is especially healthy as it is a rich source of natural antioxidants.
Is Organic Better
Buying organic produce where possible is better for your health but not totally necessary, as organic produce is normally higher priced than non organic equivalents, but a little organic produce will go a long way to getting you started.
Don’t panic if you can’t find organic foods in your area. Concentrating on eating fresh (and ideally raw) fruit and veg is the main point, whether they are organic or not, rather than not get enough of them. However, there are some good reasons for concentrating on organic food on a healthy detox diet.
Artificial fertilizers and pesticides are banned from production of organic foods, and therefore they are much healthier being free from toxins and man made chemicals. The practice of organic farming is very contentious due to the fact that there is mounting evidence that the accumulation of man made fertilizers and pesticides overtime may cause health problems in the future.
By comparison, organic foods are processed much less than non-organic. Ultimately this means organic foods not genetically modified and are free from hydrogenated fats and artificial additives. And you may notice that organic foods also taste better and have much deeper flavors.
