Why Should I Consider A Used Golf Cart

The golf cart has been around for decades and yet it is still much the same as when it was first developed. Golf carts are perfectly designed to transport one or more players between one pace and another or from one shot to the next. They are simple and very economical vehicles running on either a gas engine or a battery powered electric motor.

The amount of miles a golf cart does means it doesn’t get a great deal of wear and the worst cart you see will probably be one with a dent where someone forgot to stop in time. With the correct maintenance and servicing you can expect a golf cart to last for many years making a used golf cart a great buy when compared with the cost of new ones.

You can get golf carts powered by electric motors run from a battery or a cart with a gas engine and either type will not cost you a lot to run. The choice is a personal one and many users wouldn’t even know which type they were using.

Anyone buying used golf carts should check that it has been serviced correctly. Gas powered carts will need more in the way of servicing than electric but it is a quick and simple task so it should be done regularly. The electric golf carts have far fewer moving parts and servicing often involves little more than a quick check to ensure the electrical connections are in order. Both electric and gas powered carts will need to have their brakes checked and you should make sure the tires are as they should be.

You can stand out from the crowd with a customized paint job and seat trim on your golf cart. I have even seen a cart decorated to look like a briefcase though why I have no idea. There is nothing wrong with wanting to show you consider yourself a little different from the norm.

When is a golf cart not a golf cart? Never since even when they are used at other non-golfing venues they are still called golf carts. They are used at locations such as them parks and factory sites because they are such simple and reliable little vehicles.

Golf carts are great at doing what they do and they go on doing that for years so we should be grateful to the guy who invented them. They have many uses and last a long time and they make a great used buy. So if you are thinking of buying a golf cart check out some of the websites offering then for sale.

Understanding the Golf Swing

Down through the centuries golf as become the most personally challenging game involving the largest number of players throughout the world. This is partly because those who pursue the game of golf except frustration as part of the challenge and fun of playing the sport.

Because of the dedication of so many people to the game that is loved so much, golf continues to command the attention of those players still searching for numerous ways to reduce the frustration and increase the pleasure of golf.

Numerous books and magazines have been published for this purpose. Regardless of how many books are read, and how much time and effort is spent on behalf of pleasure-seeking golfers, problems will always occur. Interestingly enough, that is part of golf’s fascination.

Nothing is more gratifying for established golfers than to have a perfect golf swing and to be able to keep the swing intact through adjustments or corrections. It is a continually self-rewarding experience. The biomechanics of golf swing, however, is as unpredictable as the weather and as capricious as the wind. A poor golf swing even afflicts the best of professional players from time to time.

Most of the problems and frustrations in golf can be overcome by taking the time and effort to understanding the golf swing. In the beginning, you prevent problems by using basic fundamentals to develop a sound, consecutive swing, and you correct further problems by using fundamentals to adjust or correct very specific parts of your swing that relate to these problem areas.

Because of the complexity of the swing and it’s somewhat capricious nature, not even experienced professional golf players are able to find and correct recurrent problems in golf, and they have long since learned that the problems must be corrected because the swing cannot be forced to conform.

Many golfers find that the more they force a golf swing into conformity the more problematic it becomes. When chronic problems do occur and cannot be resolved in practice, it is truly the mark of an expert player to accept limitations and know when to call for help.

Yes, even professional players seek professional help for golf swing tips. The reason is because it is far easier to see a flaw than to actually feel one in the swing. Even average golfers hoping to develop their golf swing with the basics, should be selective in finding a good instructor just as a pro golfer would. When selecting a professional instructor, you should insure that their knowledge is grounded in the basics of golf.

Horseback Riding – English or Western?

Learning how to ride is a very rewarding experience, but it can often be a bit confusing as to which type of riding is most suited to your goals with regards to what you want to do with your horse. A good place to start is by talking to experienced riders. Find out what they like about each style and see which fits you the best. In reality both types of riding require practice and time to learn the basics, however if you want to become a competitive rider you are going to need to put in many, many hours in the saddle to become proficient in either style.

If you are going to compete, knowing what you want to do in the competition is essential before choosing a riding style. If you like the more formal style of dressage, hunt seat and saddle seat, than your choice will be the English riding style. On the other hand if you want to compete in less formal events where jeans and western style shirts are the trend then rodeos or trail riding, endurance events, cross country rides, gymkhana, western pleasure riding or any type of working cow horse event then your only option is to learn to ride western style. If you want to just be able to get out and enjoy seeing different country and riding with friends you can select either option.

Besides just what events you can compete in there are also differences to the actual riding styles. Western riding tends to be more casual with the rider somewhat relaxed on the back of the horse, longer stirrups with less posting during riding and more firmly affixed to the back of the horse to maintain balance. Western riding also has the reins held in one hand, leaving the other hand free for using a rope. English riding has shorter stirrups with riders more erect to slightly forward sitting, posting in motion to the horse and typically holding the reins in both hands. Some English riding will require double reins, one set to direct the motion of the horse and one set to control the head position. English riding also has several different styles including hunt seat, dressage, saddleseat, and endurance. Each of these disciplines has their own style of tack – a dressage saddle, jumping saddle, all purpose saddle, and so on.

Once you make a decision on which style you prefer, make sure you are wearing proper safety equipment, including a riding helmet. Proper safety equipment is a must for all junior and novice riders. When you select a style you can always decide to learn the other style at a later date, after all your horse can certainly learn another style, but learning both at the same time is overwhelming and can lead to confusion.

Bowling Spare Techniques To Improve Your Game

While the average person would ask, “Just how hard can it be to roll a heavy ball down a straight alley and knock down ten pins?” a novice bowler knows it can be harder than you’d think! If a bowler fails to knock down all of the pins on the first attempt, then he has a “spare” to pick up. If the leftover pins are far apart, he has a dreaded “split.” Thankfully, the creators of the sport decided to be merciful… bowlers get not one, but two attempts to knock down all the ten pins.

The Benefits of Picking Up Spares…

There is a fantastic benefit for picking up your spares. When your spare or split is cleared, a bonus score will be added to the next frame, thus greatly increasing your score. Imagine what your average would be if you routinely cleaned up your act! Picking up your spares or splits will always vary in difficulty, but with practice, patience and perseverance, you too will be clearing frames like the pros!

The Tools to Knock ‘em ALL Down

If your spare is a cluster of pins or a single pin, you have an easy job. Just aim your ball straight at the offending pins. Keep your arm swing smooth past your body and your wrist straight and vertical, like you’re going to shake someone’s hand.

However, if your offending pin is next to the gutter, on the same side as the hand you use to bowl, for example, on your left if you are left-handed, there is an easy technique to hit the 7 or 10 pin, as the case may be. Move to the opposite side of the lane as your bowling hand and roll the ball across the lane at your pin. More advanced bowlers can use a hook to aim at a single-pin target when it’s on the opposite side of their bowling hand.

When two adjacent pins are left standing, your target is the forward pin. Simply clip it on the side opposite of the pin next to it, and your ball will knock them both down. But be careful of your technique if you attempt to knock the rear pin over…if you hit the pin too hard it will likely fly over the other pin and leave it standing.

Hitting the Splits

The secret to picking up your splits depends on which pins are split.

The 2-7 or 3-10 Split: When clearing the 2-7 or 3-10 split, hit the leading pin on the side next to the other pin. Usually, the ball will go back and pick up the rear pin as well.

The 4-5 or 5-6 Split: In these splits, the distance between the two pins and the bowler are about the same and in order to knock the pins both down, you must aim directly between them, hitting each pin at the same time by going straight through the center.

The 7-10 and Other Far Splits: These splits are too far from each other to hit them both with the ball at the same time. A different strategy, as well as a bit of luck is required. Hit one pin hard enough on the inside to cause it to ricochet off the side wall, back across the alley and into the remaining pin.

Knowing the techniques of bowling spares will result in much higher scores and an improved average. You can use the correct techniques to reach your spare bowling goals and impress your fellow bowlers. You will certainly look like the Pro by bowling clear frames!

Coaches Need to Reinforce Mechanics During Workouts

In baseball, the starting pitcher may stand in one spot for the vast duration of an inning, but he’s the one guy on the team who does the most physical work in a game. Pitching requires an incredible amount of attention, patience, and stamina. It is both a mentally and physically exhausting job, yet extremely rewarding when the job is done right. No less than any other team member, the pitcher has to train hard, although his training will require quite a different approach than that of many other players of other sports. What comprises effective drills for baseball pitchers?

Is weight training a vital part of baseball pitcher’s workouts? A pitcher needs to have a strong arm to achieve better velocity, doesn’t he? Actually, weight training is a bad idea for a pitcher. First of all, it is not the arm that controls pitch speed, but the body. Neither does this mean that a pitcher should do a full body strength training workout. At the heart of speed is good pitching mechanics, period. All weight training does is provide the pitcher with further opportunity for injury.

Do other types of exercise make for good pitching workouts? While full body strength training is not recommended, full body explosive exercises are. These may include sprinting and aerobic training. One reason behind this is that while good pitching mechanics improve pitch speed, exhibiting speed, in turn, improves the acquisition of good mechanics. Besides, pitching is not slow and deliberate, like weight training – pitching is fast and explosive, like the aforementioned sprinting and aerobic exercises.

The best practice routines are those that most closely resemble genuine game intensity and play. Therefore, workouts should stick to explosive exercises as previously mentioned. Practices should also be conducted according to some tough standards. The pitcher should throw from a mound and not the flat turf. Drills and concentrating on the long toss should be traded in for practicing mechanics for baseball pitchers. Pitches should not only mimic game intensity, but also quantity. That is, the pitcher should try to throw in practice as many pitches as he would in a game. Throwing fewer pitches, again, actually creates greater risk of injury.

Really, these approaches to practices only make sense. Just as standing still at the foul line and taking large quantities of shots doesn’t really prepare a basketball player for a real game, neither is a pitcher prepared for a real game simply by tossing the ball back and forth. The key is in practicing that reinforces those good, solid mechanics.

How To Play Bowling The Proper Way

Bowling is a great way to gain fitness and coordination while having fun with your family and friends. It’s much more than just throwing a heavy ball down a long bowling lane…it’s one of the most complicated and competitive sports around. By learning how to play bowling properly, you’ll gain confidence, have more fun, and beat the competition!

Without further ado, here are the proper techniques of bowling to improve your game:

1. Have perfect Posture
In bowling, posture counts! Keep your head up, looking straight at your target. Your shoulders should stay square to the foul line, especially through the swing.

2. Grip the ball properly
If you use a house ball, make sure the thumbhole is loose fitting.  The thumb frequently swells a little during bowling and if you’re forcing your fingers into the holes before you bowl, they’re likely to get stuck!  If you have your own ball, have your pro shop custom drill your finger holes.  If your thumb routinely swells, it may help by wrapping it in bowler’s tape.  If your hands sweat, be sure to carry a towel to wipe them on and then dust your hands with a little rosin.  If you have a difficult time gripping the ball, your pro shop can insert grips into the finger holes.

3. A good starting place
For right-handers, a good place to start is 2 arrows right of the center. If you’re left handed, start 2 arrows to the left of the middle. Adjust your position right or left after you have bowled a couple of balls, depending on where your ball ended up.

4. Focus on your target
Make up your mind where you’re going to aim.  If it’s your first ball, aim to bowl so that it will hit the right of the front (#1) pin first if you’re right handed, or to the left of it for left-handers.

5. Breathe
Relax yourself by taking three slow, deep breaths. It’s common to feel anxious before bowling… but the more comfortable you are, the more control you will gain over your ball.

6. Smooth moves
The speed and power of your ball are determined by the way you carry yourself to bowl. Position yourself so you will take four consistently paced steps to throw the ball.

7. Slow down!
One of the most common traits beginner bowlers have in common is to rush. It’s important to have some speed to deliver the ball properly, but too much speed is the #1 reason for both gutter balls and 7-10 splits in beginner bowlers!

8. Maintaining your balance
Be sure to remain upright and focused on your target as you approach the foul line. Keep your shoulders square as you use your leg as a counterweight to keep your balance during the release.

9. Releasing the ball
Keeping your arm slightly bent at the elbow, retract your arm behind your body, cradling the ball in your hand.  Keep a smooth straight arc from back to front.  Be careful of arcing around your body and back…that’s a common habit in many novice bowlers! At the low point of your swing, release the ball.  A relaxed arm and wrist make for an effective shot!

10. Following through
After releasing the ball, keep your target in sight and your arm continuing its arc forward. Just “letting the ball go” and pulling your arm back will roll the ball off-course.

The most important thing to remember when learning to bowl is to have FUN! By learning how to play bowling properly you will make the game much more enjoyable for yourself and for those who bowl with you.

Pitching Mechanics Outrank Strength For Speed and Control

Football is a contact sport, so it makes sense for players to want to bulk up with plenty of muscle and weight to fly across the field making tackles. Baseball, on the other hand, is not a contact sport. While physical skills are certainly beneficial in the game, brute strength isn’t one of them – most especially if you’re a pitcher (who isn’t expected to be the world’s best hitter or runner). Why, then, do too many pitchers train for strength when they should be working on their baseball pitching techniques?

Which physical skill is more important: strength or speed? When it comes to pitching a baseball, speed wins. No, strength training isn’t necessary to gain speed, either. First, the mind has to understand pitching mechanics, then the body has to practice them – so that executing proper position and form is as natural as slipping a hand into a batting glove. Since the body and not the arm controls speed, once a player learns the proper body mechanics, everything else falls right into place.

What are some things to think about that will encourage a pitcher to gain speed via good pitching mechanics instead of attempting to increase strength? Don’t do weight training, throw heavy balls, or focus on the long toss. Remember, this will only make the arm stronger, not the pitcher. In fact, these are sure ways to simply increase chance of injury, so it is doubly important to avoid them. Neither are pitching drills or other excessively repetitive exercises helpful.

Should the pitcher, then, instead do the complete opposite and simply try to improve by playing “catch” or doing anything less than game intensity pitching? No.  Just because the pitcher should be concentrating on training his whole body to use proper pitching mechanics – instead of focusing on his arm through tunnel vision – doesn’t mean his practice on the whole should be any less intense.

Keep the body under control by eliminating unnecessary and speed-decreasing movements. Don’t rotate your trunk or hips. Don’t step to the side before lifting your leg or lift your leg too high. Implement a longer stride, however, to put you closer to the plate and add to your overall control. While position is important, don’t obsess over “staying tall”, as this can actually shorten your stride. Don’t forget: In pitching, speed outranks strength, and speed is gained not through strength and baseball pitching drills, but through mechanics. With good mechanics, a baseball pitcher will simultaneously acquire both faster speed and better control.

Understanding A Marine Diesel Engine

In a traditional marine diesel engine its power is produced by hot compressed air igniting fuel which has been sprayed into the cylinder head under very high pressure. A marine diesel engine does not have a carburetor to mix fuel or air spark plugs to ignite the mixture. Instead it uses the pistons to compress the air to 3000 kPa, which causes it to become very hot and the fuel is ignited immediately it is injected into the cylinder.

Some marine diesel engines are fitted with a glow plug in the pre-combustion chamber of each cylinder or a heater plug in the inlet manifold. These can provide additional heat to the combustion air during the starting process.

Diesel marine engines are slower revving and heavier than gasoline engines but they are also more reliable because they do not have to count on external carburetion or that electrical spark for ignition.

Newer engines use an electronic fuel injection system whereby air and fuel are mixed thoroughly in the pre-combustion chamber before entering the cylinder. This system maximizes power and fuel economy and is a less polluting option.

Any boater must have at least a basic understanding of how their engine works so we’ll begin by explaining the mechanical cycles.

Most reciprocating piston internal combustion engines work on one of two mechanical cyclesóeither the four-stroke cycle or the two-stroke cycle. These cycles list, in the correct order, the mechanical actions by which the fuel and air gain access to the engine cylinder, the gas pressure – due to combustion – is converted into power and, lastly, the burnt gas is expelled from the engine cylinder.

A Basic Four-Stroke Diesel Engine

From its name, it should be clear that there are four strokes in one complete engine cycle. A stroke is the movement of the piston through the full length of the cylinder and, since one such movement causes the crankshaft to rotate half a turn, it follows that there are two crankshaft revolutions in one complete engine cycle.

In the order they occur the four strokes are:

1. Inlet stroke. With the inlet valve open and the exhaust valve closed, the piston moves from top dead center (TDC) to bottom dead center (BDC), creating a low-pressure area in the cylinder. Clean, filtered air rushes through the open inlet valve to relieve this low-pressure area, and the cylinder fills with air.

2. Compression stroke. With both valves closed, the piston moves from BDC to TDC, compressing the air. During this stroke the air becomes heated to a temperature sufficiently high to ignite the fuel.

3. Power stroke. At around TDC, the fuel is injected, or sprayed, into the hot, compressed air, where it ignites, burns and expands. Both valves remain closed, and the pressure on the piston crown forces it down the cylinder from TDC to BDC.

4. Exhaust stroke. At approximately BDC the exhaust valve opens and the piston starts to move from BDC to TDC, driving the burnt gas out of the cylinder through the exhaust valve which is open.

The Two-Stroke Diesel Engine

The two-stroke engine uses two piston strokes to complete one power stroke and, therefore, it fires twice as often as a four-stroke engine. A two-stroke engine is smaller and simpler with fewer moving parts. A two-stroke engine has the potential to produce twice as much power as a four-stroke engine of the same size, however, because of the extra fitting required in a two-stroke diesel engine, for example blowers and governors, they become more expensive to produce. There has been a move towards four stroke diesel engines of late as they have become smaller and more efficient.

Protect Your Marine Diesel Engine

Avoid idling your marine engine for longer than ten minutes in a no-load state. The engine is often idled to charge the batteries or cool  the refrigeration but if done repeatedly it will glaze the bores of the engine and cause premature engine failure. If the vessel is in a berth the engine can be put in gear to create load at idle.

Every boat owner should have some knowledge of basic marine diesel engine maintenance to keep themselves and their families safe while boating.
