How To Buy A Winter Camping Tent

Good winter tents (or four season tents) are made to effectively protect you from wind, cold and forms of precipitation while providing adequate ventilation.

Before I talk about things to consider before choosing a good winter tent, keep in mind that the usage of a “winter” tent doesn’t need to be limited to winter conditions – it can be used in mild conditions as well. Just remember that although you can use your 4 season tent in the summer, many of them bottle up heat and don’t have the ventilation to keep you cool (unless it’s a lightweight four season tent).

Now, the camping tent you buy should…

  • keep out the cold,
  • ventilate well,
  • stand up to strong winds,
  • brush off heavy snow, and
  • ward off all forms of precipitation.

If you’re a backpacker, you probably know that you should buy a lightweight tent so you can easily carry it around.

Winter tents are designed to withstand extreme temperatures, but here are three factors to consider before you buy your winter tent…

Size Is Important

Winter campers spend lots of time inside their tents as compared to summer campers. For this reason you definitely want to choose the right size tent. There are tents small enough for 1 person and large enough to hold 10+. You might even consider buying a tent that is slightly bigger than what you need.

For example, if you need to sleep 3, consider buying a 4 person tent to ensure you’ll have plenty of space.

Strong Frame

The tent poles should be sturdy. The frame should be made of extra strength aluminum or carbon fiber rather than fiberglass or customary aluminum which can easily fracture.

Storage

You want a tent with storage options for your gear. You want to be able to move around inside your tent without smashing anything.

If you have two or three rooms, one space can act as your “foyer” for storing boots, wet outerwear, etc.

Storage pockets will also make it easy to locate handy items when you need them.

Armed with the know-how, the right equipment and a quality winter tent, you’ll be comfortable no matter what the weather decides to dish out.

How To Choose The Right Camping Tent

An important element of a fun camping experience is having the right tent. Camping is a fun experience, but using the wrong tent can dampen the whole thing.

There are some questions that you should answer to make sure you choose the right tent.

First of all, the most important question to answer is how many people will be using the tent? This will determine the right style and size for your needs.

You might want to consider purchasing a tent slightly bigger than you need. For example, if you need a tent for 6, consider buying a 7 person tent. That way you’ll most likely have plenty of room inside.

What kind of conditions should the tent be able to withstand? Will you camp in the summer? Spring and summer? Or are you going to camp throughout the year? You want to buy a tent that can handle all the conditions you’re likely to encounter.

There are family camping tents made mostly for fair weather and there are 3 or 4 season tents. How often will the tent be used? You want a durable family tent if you’re planning on camping frequently. If you’re camping with super active children, you definitely want a sturdy tent!

How much interior space do you want or need? If you really want comfort, you have to take sleeping space and storage into account. Do you want standing room? Consider buying a dome tent. Will you be backpacking or hiking? You should look for a lightweight tent that you can easily transport.

Shapes And Styles

Family camping tents are available in different shapes and can be small enough for 3 and large enough to hold 10+.

Family Cabin Tents

Cabin tents can be sectioned off to create two or more rooms and usually allow multiple entry and exit points.

Dome Style Family Tents

The rounded shape of a family dome tent adds strength, good wind resistance and good interior space.

A-Frame Style Tents

A-frame tents have a simple, lightweight design. They’re usually freestanding and easy to get set up. There’s good room at the floor but there’s less room at the top.

Umbrella Style Tents

Umbrella style tents have spacious head and floor space, can hold many people, and have good ventilation.

Different Season Tents

There are 2, 3 and 4 season family camping tents.

Two season tents are fair weather tents that are usually very inexpensive.

Three season tents are the most popular and are able to handle rain.

Four season tents have heavier construction to fight off wind stress and snow loads. They’re made of higher grade fabrics and contain more poles for added strength.

Four season tents can possibly feel hot and heavy if used in moderate weather.

Shop from a variety of family tents – you’ll find smaller 3 person tents and larger 7+ person tents

How to Select an Above Ground Swimming Pool

Intex Round Frame Above Ground Pool Set Up

Above ground pools are probably the most popular form of swimming pool today. As the name tells you an above ground swimming pool is a pool that is installed above the ground rather than being buried.

Above ground pools provide a number of advantages over their in ground equivalents. One of the key benefits is, of course, safety. It is much more difficult for a child or a pet to fall into an above ground pool as they will often have to climb steps to gain access.

Another key advantage is ease of installation. Above ground swimming pools generally require far less ground work preparation before installation. In fact many can be built by competent DIY enthusiasts and there are some excellent swimming pool kits that make owning your own pool very affordable.

There are some excellent above ground pool designs to choose from. These include both wooden and metal framed pools along with vinyl sided pools. Splasher pools are a good example of easy-to-install fun backyard swimming pools. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. From modest circular pools with a depth of 36 inches to much more substantial elliptical pools that will provide fun and exercise for the whole family.

If you are thinking about an above ground pool here are a few things to bear in mind:

How big is the area for your swimming pool? Always leave adequate clearance around the pool for ease of access.

Who will be using the pool? If the pool is to be used by young children and non-swimmers it is sensible to choose a shallower pool.

During which months and seasons will the pool get most use? Most outdoor swimming pool owners in Europe will often only use their pools during the peak summer months. You can extend the time during which your pool is usable with the insulation provided by a suitable pool enclosure.

What additional accessories will you need for your pool? Often overlooked. You may want a pool heating system, a good pool debris cover, cleaners, filters and water treatment chemicals.

Armed with this information I would suggest that you then contact at least two reputable swimming pool supply companies with the details of your above ground swimming pool requirements. They will provide you with the benefit of their experience and give you some suggestions of various above ground pools that fulfil your requirements.

Many people are finding that there has never been a better time to invest in a pool for their back garden. Competition between pool supply companies is fierce and many people are not spending on luxury items like swimming pools. Now could be the time to find yourself a bargain.

Visit London And Buckingham Palace

England is wonderful and exciting country in which to take a vacation. It has a large number of| tourist attraction|places of interest to visit perfectly suited for all tastes. For example the historical city of York which is known to have been inhabited since the times of the Romans, Torquay (which is widely known as the English Riviera) and Liverpool (which won the title of European City of Culture in 2008). Possibly the most famous place to visit is London the capital city of the United kingdom of Great Britain

London is a most astounding destination to visit, either just for a weekend or, hopefully for a longer period. You would be surprised at the number of people residing in the UK who have not visited London, this is especially surprising when you bear in mind the fact it is most often top of the majority of visitors lists (of places they enjoyed most).

There is simply so much to do and see in London that it is simply not possible to list them all at once. Surprisingly one of the newest attractions in London also happens to be one of the most popular – The London Eye. Another popular attraction nearby to the London Eye is the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. However, one place which must not be missed is Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace is England’s most well known Royal residence, being home to Queen Elizabeth. Buckingham Palace is to be found right in the very heart of London which makes it a natural focus for visitors. The daily pageant of ‘Changing of the Guard’ is highly fascinating to see and ever so English.

Buckingham Palace was originally called Buckingham House. It was originally a large town house, built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. It is actually the town house which forms the main core of the palace as we know it today.

During the subsequent 3 quarters of a century Buckingham House was extended by the addition of 3 wings creating a central courtyard. The primary architects responsible for these constructions were Edward Blore and John Nash. It was also John Nash who was responsible for the interior design of the monumental staterooms.

The famous architect Aston Webb was responsible for the construction of the principal facade of Buckingham Palace which, in 1912, he re-designed. Webb along with the sculptor Sir Thomas Brock were the winners of a competition to design a memorial to Queen Victoria. This memorial can still be today.

The Queen has a number of royal residences besides Buckingham Palace. Annually the Queen stays, at Sandringham House in Norfolk, during the Christmas period. Sandringham House is one of the Queen’s private royal residences.

A further private residence is Balmoral Castle, situated in Royal Aberdeenshire in Scotland. The Queen was staying in Balmoral Castle when she was told about the sad death of Princess Diana.

If you would like to take a break in the UK you might be surprised to discover that it is possible to find cheap hotels in London without any great effort, on the other hand you may wish to stay in more luxurious accommodation and the small number of boutique hotels in London should be more than satisfactory.

The London Eye Is The Best Way To See London

London, the capital of England in the UK, has a massive selection of world class visitor attractions many of which are the most popular in Britain. For generations London has been a popular vacation destination and much of this interest is due to the immensity of the historical buildings and the unique culture. While many of the visitor attractions found in London have a historic interest, such as the Houses of Parliament, The Tower of London and Buckingham Palace, there are many that are only recent additions, such as the London Aquarium, and the youngest of these is the London Eye.

The London Eye is often referred to as the Millennium Wheel as it was built in 1999 to commemorate the arrival of the new millennium. It was officially opened by the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in the evening of December 31 but, sadly, there were technical issues and it was not opened to the public until March 2000. Standing 135m above London it has become an unmistakable, and highly visible, landmark.

The Great Wheel of London was an enormous Ferris wheel, capable of carrying up to 1600 people, which appeared in Earl’s Court in 1895. Unfortunately it was demolished in 1907 but today London has a replacement in the London Eye. Although it is not the largest Ferris wheel in the world it can legitimately claim to be the worlds largest cantilever observation tower!

Although the London Eye cannot carry as many people as the Great Wheel of London could it can manage to carry 25 people in each of its 32 capsules. In contrast to a Ferris wheel it is possible to get up and walk around in a pod but you may find that you want to sit down as it takes about half an hour for it to complete a full revolution.

With as many as three and a half million people “flying” on the London Eye a year it is now one of the most popular attractions in London. The main reason people take the trip is to enjoy the most amazing views of London. From the top of the wheel it is possible to see the surrounding four miles and you can see a multitude of famous London landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court Palace, St Paul’s and Westminster Abbey. During your flight you will be able to enjoy one of the finest views of the Houses of Parliament possible.

The London Eye has been the scene of many a marriage proposal and a number of weddings, which can be booked as a package. In fact there are a number of things available which also include educational aspects for schools and colleges as well as river boat trips along the Thames.

If you are planning a vacation to London or just a weekend break it is well worth taking the opportunity to take a ride on this incredible visitor attraction. If your time in London is limited it is a real time saver as you are able to take in nearly all of the most important London landmarks during the 30 minute trip which is impossible to do any other way (excluding a helicopter or balloon ride).

What Are Boutique Hotels?

It is becoming increasingly common to see that many of the new, smaller, hotels are describing themselves as a “Boutique Hotel”. Across the city of London, the capital city of England in the United Kingdom, there are now a small number of superb boutique hotels but what exactly is a “Boutique Hotel” and where did they first appear? This article discusses this question in detail.

Commonly boutique hotels are owned and run by small organizations, families or couples. However, there has been a recent trend for some of the larger hotel chains to build hotels to meet the specific demand for these hotels so this distinction may not hold true for much longer! One statement that is true for all boutique hotels is that they feature unique elements of decoration and style and, in many cases, this is based upon a specific theme. Such themes can range from a hotel decorated and furnished in the 17th Century style to one which is focused on chocolate for avid chocoholics. Although the vast majority of boutique hotels are based upon one particular theme or style, from time to time, you will find such a hotel that chooses to have each room individually styled upon different, and sometimes contrasting, themes.

Where Was The First Boutique Hotel?

Boutique hotels first appeared in the late 1980s in New York USA. Although some hotels claim to have been boutique hotels as far back as 1981 in places such as London UK and San Francisco the first hotel to be described as such was the ‘Morgans’ hotel, New York, in 1984. These earlier claimants were, therefore, subsequently described as such and can not, realistically, claim to be the first.

‘Morgans’ hotel  was owned by Steven Rubell and Ian Schrager who had commissioned the Parisian designer Andrée Putman to create a unique, highly stylized, hotel in New York.  Putman created the hotel in what has become known as an “America meets Europe” fashion. Steven Rubell set out to promote his hotel and to do this he needed to make his hotel stand out from all others, especially those belonging to the large hotel chains. He described other hotels as “department store” hotels and his own as a “boutique hotel” to show the distinctive difference – thus the phrase entered the English language for the first time.

Interesting Boutique Hotels in the United Kingdom

42 The Calls (hotel) in Leeds claims to be one of the first to appear in the UK. The Calls was a hotel built in the carcass of an old corn mill and used that as the overall theme. The hotel features some of the original corn mill machinery and is renowned for having luxurious hand made beds in its rooms.

The Blake’s Hotel in South Kensington, London, is often quoted as being one of the first boutique hotels in the world but, although this appeared before Morgans in New York, for the reasons outlined above this claim is often dismissed. Ever since the first boutique hotels appeared they have spread across the United Kingdom until they recently reached the remote island of Harris, where a boutique hotel recently opened in the small village of Tarbert, however the vast majority are to be found in London.

If you are planning a trip to, or a vacation in, London and you are considering booking a boutique hotel you may wish to check out the listings of boutique hotels in London at http://www.londonhotelhelper.com/
