Cure For Eczema – Is There One?

Cure for eczema is a very difficult concept from a Western medical standpoint, as there is no common etiology for this condition. It is the name given to a group of symptoms affecting the skin such as dryness, itchiness and redness. In some cases, the underlying reason can be discovered, however, in many cases it is termed to be idiopathic, meaning that the cause is unknown.

In some cases, the eczema is due to an allergy. If the allergen is found, then a solution, likewise, can be discovered. In other cases, the eczema is due to an irritant that is causing the dermatitis on contact. If one can discover the irritant, and avoid it, symptoms may disappear. Unfortunately, there are cases in which the cause is unknown. And these people are left with a treatment that focuses on symptoms, rather than the root of the problem.

Cure for eczema, as such, does not therefore exist in Western medicine. It is treated symptomatically. For example, with allergic eczema, antihistamines can be used. Or, a doctor may prescribe a medication that is steroidal. Neither of these, particularly steroids, is good to take consistently over a long period of time. And if the allergen cannot be discovered, the person afflicted by this type of eczema will continue to have symptoms without treatment.

It would seem as if there are more cases of eczema recently, although this may be due to poor documentation prior. But as environmental toxins, as well as stress, do make eczema worse, it is possible that our modern lifestyles have are part of the problem.

One can try some solutions that are more natural. Some are good for everyone such as eating organically, using natural cleaners, eliminating toxins in the home and bathing in filtered water. Another alternative that has had some good results is Chinese medicine.
