Decided To Go With Epoxy Paint?
Epoxy floor paints are used on floors that are subjected to heavy vehicular and human traffic, like the garage and the basement. You can apply them on shop floors, concrete slabs, laundry room floors, brick pavers, interior floors, pole barns, kennels and trailers made out of wood. Many paints can’t resist various chemicals and other contaminants, but epoxy fights well against, water, oil, grease, dirt and other debris. Tough resins that are mixed during the application are responsible for this. It’s because of this they are the most efficient solution for your floors.
You can find three separate epoxy concrete paint types. You need to know that 100% solids do not have any solvents that can evaporate into thin air. Second, solvent based epoxies adhere and penetrate well but they are hazardous to health and need that you ventilate your garage or basement well during application to avoid breathing the fumes that emanate from them. Thrid option are water based paints that have anti-slip texture, are cheaper and thinner while not containing any dangerous fumes. They need a lot of air the dry properly and in time.
You will have to clean your floor before applying the paint, use a hard bristled brush to remove all the debris and dirt, and do not forget to use some soapy water on the concrete to help you deal with the dirt. Get a degreaser and scrub it all over the floor so all the soluble contaminants can be rinsed with water. You can check is your epoxy garage surface clean by spraying some water to see will it stick on the flooring. you will then have to leave your coating to dry until the next day. Wait for the morning and apply the first coating. You will need 2 or 3 layers to make a good coating. You should always have a old cotton rag near you when you are applying water based paint and a thinner for solvent based paints so you can get rid of all those nasty spills and drips.
I love this paint and go for it because it has a clean finish, is resistant to acid and salts, while it is durable and tough in the long run. Before you allow any traffic on the surface, you will have to wait for some time for these to mature, since the proper preparation and application is needed.
