Facts About Juggling

Juggling a skill involving moving objects for the sake of entertainment or sports. One of the most recognizable form of juggling is toss juggling, in which jugglers throw up objects up to catch and toss it up again.

Jugglers often refer to the objects they are using as props. The common props are balls or beanbags, rings, clubs and special bounce balls. Performers use dramatic objects such as knives, fire torches and even chainsaws.

Popular forms of Juggling

1. Objects juggled – The most common objects that are used as a props in juggling are balls, clubs, rings, diabolos, devil sticks and cigar boxes, they also use scarves, knives, pineapples, flaming torches and chainsaws.

2. Method of juggling – The classical and the most popular form of juggling is called toss juggling, throwing and catching objects in the air without touching the ground.

3. Performance style

· This may include the gentleman juggler they are using objects such as hats, canes, plates, wine bottles and cigars.

· Another performance style is called comedy juggling, the juggling skill is secondary to the comic character and jokes of the Dallas magician.

· In Sport themed, the performers dress in sporting attire and juggle sports equipment such as tennis rackets, footballs, or even snooker balls.

· In Traditional circus style, the performers are presenting pure skill with precision and skill, the cultural extensions of the traditional circus include Chinese circus, which mainly uses rings and badminton rackets and Russian folk, which uses colorful costumes and characters with unique props and acrobatics.

4. Number of jugglers – Juggling is commonly performed by individuals, however, multiple-person juggling is performed by two or more people.

Juggling world records

Toss juggling and club passing world record are tracked by Juggling Information Service Committee on Numbers Juggling or JISCON, here are the list of some world records:

· Rings/Plates : 13 rings for 3 catches made by Albert Lucas in 2002

· Balls/Beanbags : 12 beanbags for 12 catches the first one was made by Bruce Sarafian in 1996

· Clubs/Sticks : 9 sticks for 9 catches the first on was made by Bruce Tiemann in 1996

{Each of these records is known as a “flash” meaning each prop is thrown and caught only once, the JISCON records for qualifying runs are}:

· Rings : 10 rings for 47 catches by Anthony Gatto in 2005

· Balls : 10 beanbags for 23 catches by Bruce Sarafian in 2001

· Clubs : 8 clubs for 16 catches by Anthony Gatto in 2006
